IMSA Support Series Set for Double-Header Action at COTA and St. Petersburg

IMSA support series races take center stage this weekend at two prestigious venues. The VP Racing SportsCar Challenge heads to Circuit of The Americas (COTA), while the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin competes at St. Petersburg.

VP Racing SportsCar Challenge at COTA:

  • Two 45-minute sprint races on Saturday, March 1
  • Modified National Circuit layout
  • 25 cars entered across three classes:
    • 6 LMP3s
    • 10 GTDXs (GT3s)
    • 9 GSXs (GT4s)
  • Notable entries include points leaders Valentino Catalano (LMP3), Adam Adelson (GTDX), and Kiko Porto (GSX)
  • Local addition: Lone Star Racing's Marc Austin in Mercedes-AMG GT3

Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup at St. Petersburg:

  • Returns to St. Pete for first time since 2023
  • 35 cars entered, including 13 rookies
  • Two 45-minute races (March 1-2)
  • Points leader Jared Thomas leads rookies Ethan Goulart and Ren Messinger
  • Notable absence: Reigning champion Gresham Wagner, who moves to GT4 America

Both events will stream live on IMSA's official YouTube channel, with MX-5 Cup races also available on RACER's platform. The weekend represents the first major convergence of racing events in 2025, showcasing IMSA's diverse support series portfolio.

  • VPRC: Saturday double-header at COTA
  • MX-5 Cup: Saturday and Sunday at St. Petersburg (Sunday race follows IndyCar Grand Prix)
