Jaguar's Formula E team enters the new season as defending champions, having secured both the teams' and manufacturers' titles last year. Despite missing out on the drivers' championship, Team Principal James Barclay remains proud of their achievements.

"Two out of three world championships is incredible in Formula E," Barclay told RACER ahead of Season 11's opener in Sao Paulo. The team faced criticism for not backing a single driver in the title fight, but Barclay stands by their decision to give both Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy equal opportunities.

Looking ahead, Jaguar has developed the new I-Type 7 for the GEN3 Evo era. Work on this car began two years ago, aiming to improve upon its highly successful predecessor. Barclay acknowledges the challenge of maintaining their competitive edge: "When you're leading you're the target, and when you're not, you can follow that target."

The season opener in Sao Paulo presents a more typical Formula E circuit compared to previous years' starts in Mexico City. Barclay believes this will provide a better indication of the competitive order for the season ahead. "What you'll see here will be probably more representative of the competitive order," he explains.

While confident in their package, Barclay expects increased competition from other manufacturers who have made improvements. The team's focus remains on continuous development throughout the season to maintain their competitive advantage.

Should Jaguar find themselves in another championship battle this season, Barclay hints at a potential strategy shift: "If we're in a fortunate position where we're fighting for championships coming the last race of this season, we'll do things differently."
