A banner day for Legacy Motor Club at the Daytona 500 brought new emotions for Jimmie Johnson in his dual role as driver and team owner, as he secured a third-place finish in overtime.

Johnson's No. 84 Toyota emerged unscathed from the chaos, marking his best finish since his limited NASCAR return in 2023. The success extended team-wide, with John Hunter Nemechek finishing fifth, giving Legacy Motor Club two cars in the top five.

"This feels incredible," Johnson said. "I have emotions that I didn't expect to have. I've never been in this position as an owner, and it's really opened up a different set of emotions, and the pride that I have in this result and the pride that I have in this company and all that we're trying to achieve."

The strong showing comes as Legacy Motor Club enters its second season under the Toyota banner, with Johnson having become majority owner last month. The organization demonstrated its potential throughout Speedweeks, with Erik Jones nearly winning his qualifying duel race before finishing 12th in the main event.

Nemechek reflected on the chaotic finish: "It's a green-white-checkered at Daytona. I got hit in the left side door, right side door and managed to keep it straight. Jimmie blew my doors off. Strong run by Legacy Motor Club."

The result signals a promising start to the season for Legacy Motor Club, with Nemechek noting, "We already know that we're better than last year, it's just how much better is unknown."
