Matt Smith Makes Official Name Change for 2025 Racing Season - Former Meade Ready for New Era
Matt Meade, a regular at Brewerton Speedway and Thunder Mountain Speedway, will race under the name Matt Smith starting in 2025. The Triangle, N.Y., driver is making this change to align with his family legacy as the older brother of Super DIRTcar Series regular Darren Smith and son of former Southern Tire standout Jeremy Smith.

"I just felt like it was the right time," Smith explains, citing his work with his father at the family business and the frequent confusion about his relationship with Darren. "If I ever have kids of my own, I want them to have my last name."

Known as "Fast Matt" – a nickname given by a construction coworker – Smith will expand his racing schedule in 2025. While maintaining his weekly appearances at Brewerton and Thunder Mountain, he'll add several big-block races to his calendar, including potential runs at All-Tech in Florida, Canandaigua, and Weedsport.

The 25-year-old driver of the Jeremy Smith Racing No. 28 emphasizes that while they have quality equipment and resources, racing remains a passion project rather than a profession. "We do this for fun. We try to do it the right way and represent our sponsors and people that support us the right way," Smith states. His 2025 campaign will begin in February.
