Formula 1's governing body is exploring plans to mandate additional pit stops at the Monaco Grand Prix to enhance the racing spectacle at the iconic street circuit.

The proposal, discussed during the F1 Commission's first meeting of the year in London, aims to address the traditionally processional nature of the race, where leading drivers often intentionally slow the pack to protect their position during pit stop phases.

Currently, teams must make at least one pit stop per race to use two different tire compounds. The new proposal would increase this minimum requirement specifically for Monaco, though the exact number hasn't been confirmed.

The FIA statement noted: "The commission discussed proposals for Monaco-specific regulations with the aim of promoting better racing." However, Aston Martin team principal Andy Cowell indicated discussions are ongoing, stating "no final agreement" has been reached.

Additional regulatory changes approved for 2025 include:

  • Stricter front wing deflection tests from the Spanish Grand Prix
  • Enhanced rear wing testing from season start
  • Removal of seasonal gearbox usage restrictions due to improved reliability

These changes represent Formula 1's continued efforts to improve racing quality while maintaining the sport's technical innovation.
