NASCAR's 2025 rule changes bring significant updates to competition rules and procedures. Here are the key changes:
Open Exemption Provisional
- Allows world-class drivers from other racing disciplines to secure a guaranteed starting position
- Adds a 41st car to the field when provisional is granted
- Winners receive race recognition and All-Star Race eligibility
- No race points, postseason eligibility, prize money, or tiebreaker benefits
- First recipient: Helio Castroneves for the Daytona 500 with Trackhouse Racing

- New manufacturer penalties introduced

- Non-medical waivers result in forfeiture of playoff points
- Maximum 2,000 points at postseason start

Damaged Vehicle Policy (DVP)
- Eliminates seven-minute repair time constraint in garage
- Teams can work on cars indefinitely in garage
- Seven-minute clock (eight at Atlanta) remains for pit road repairs
- Damaged cars unable to drive to pit road will be towed to garage
- Teams gain more control over repair decisions
