RACER's The Creative Drive: Drift Champion Dai Yoshihara Shares His Journey
Dai Yoshihara's journey from amateur street drifter to professional racing champion is a remarkable tale of unexpected opportunities. Starting in the mountains of rural Tokyo, his career took an unexpected turn when a casual invitation led him to California's drifting scene.
Without any formal competition experience in Japan, Yoshihara quickly established himself in the United States professional drifting circuit. His natural talent attracted sponsors, and he became one of Formula D's most prominent drivers.
In 2011, Yoshihara made history by becoming the first Japanese driver to win the Formula Drift overall championship, piloting the Discount Tire Falken Tire S13. His success wasn't limited to drifting – he expanded his racing portfolio to include time attack championships, endurance racing, and even conquered the prestigious Pikes Peak unlimited class.

Today, Yoshihara continues to push boundaries in motorsports while also working as a stunt driver for Hollywood productions, including the recent Gran Turismo film. His versatility and skill across multiple racing disciplines have cemented his position as one of motorsport's most accomplished drivers.
