Dillon Steuer secured his first Short Track Super Series victory at Port Royal Speedway's Speed Showcase, outdueling veteran Matt Sheppard to claim the $12,000 prize in the 60-lap feature event.

The young driver from Bohemia, NY, showcased impressive skill starting from the second position, maintaining his lead through multiple restarts by strategically choosing the outside lane on the fast, top-dominant track.

"It's never easy, even starting second," Steuer reflected after the race. "You still have to keep up with the track and how it is changing, and holding those guys off is tough."

The race's climax came in the final five laps when Matt Sheppard, starting from 12th position, mounted an intense challenge for the lead. The two drivers engaged in a thrilling battle, with Sheppard attempting sliders in turn three, only to have Steuer cross back over in turn four.

"Matt raced me great, hard and clean each lap," Steuer acknowledged. "Being able to beat him was the cherry on top for me." The victory marks a significant milestone for Steuer's small family team, providing both momentum and crucial financial support at the season's start.

Sheppard, despite falling short, praised Steuer's performance: "Dillon is really good when he can get to the top and get rolling. He did everything right tonight and didn't make any mistakes."
