Vergne's Mexico City podium chances thwarted by ill-timed safety car
Jean-Eric Vergne faced another setback at the Mexico City E-Prix when the safety car deployment coincided with his final Attack Mode activation, echoing a similar situation from the season opener in Sao Paulo.
Despite finishing fifth and improving from his ninth-place result in Round 1, Vergne believed a podium finish was possible without the unfortunate timing of the safety car.

"On the whole it was a good weekend, for both me and the team," Vergne reflected. "Without the safety car, I really think we had the potential to finish on the podium." He highlighted the positive aspects, including scoring points in consecutive races and having a competitive car.
DS Performance director Eugenio Franzetti shared Vergne's sentiment, noting that both drivers had activated their Attack Modes just before the safety car appearance. Despite this setback, he praised the team's overall performance, with drivers finishing fifth and sixth after qualifying third and sixth.
Maximilian Guenther, Vergne's teammate, secured sixth place and his first points with DS Penske since joining from Maserati MSG Racing. Guenther expressed satisfaction with the team's progress, noting improved qualifying speed and growing comfort with the car, despite some tire degradation issues during the race.
"I'm feeling better and better in the car and the goal is now to continue on this trajectory to move further up the order," Guenther stated, looking ahead to the upcoming races in Jeddah.
