William Byron Claims Chaotic Cup Series Pole Position at Phoenix
William Byron secured the NASCAR Cup Series pole position at Phoenix Raceway with a dramatic final qualifying lap of 133.680mph (26.930s). Despite admitting to a ragged performance where he "missed his marks," Byron's commitment to maintaining speed through the corners proved decisive.
Joey Logano will join Byron on the front row after posting a 133.195mph (27.028s) lap. Carson Hocevar, Josh Berry, and Erik Jones round out the top five starting positions.
Notable performances include:
- Spire Motorsports placed all three drivers (Hocevar, McDowell, Haley) in the top 10
- Christopher Bell, seeking his third consecutive Cup Series win, starts 11th
- Katherine Legge, making her Cup Series debut, qualified 37th

This marks Byron's 14th career pole but his first at Phoenix Raceway, breaking a drought dating back to Circuit of The Americas in spring 2024.
"Still shaking. That did not feel like a good lap, but I just committed to it, and the grip was there," Byron told Prime.
