Wood Brothers Unveil Jim Clark's 1965 Indy 500 Tribute Livery for Darlington
Jim Clark's iconic 1965 Indianapolis 500 victory will be honored through Josh Berry's Wood Brothers Racing throwback paint scheme at Darlington Raceway this April. The tribute was unveiled at the Henry Ford Museum alongside Clark's original No. 82 Ford Lotus.
The green and yellow No. 21 Ford Mustang design celebrates multiple milestones - Wood Brothers Racing's 75th anniversary and the 60th anniversary of Clark's historic Indy 500 win. The Wood Brothers played a crucial role in Clark's victory, serving as his pit crew and introducing their innovative pit stop techniques to open-wheel racing.

Team president Jon Wood collaborated with Clive Chapman, son of Team Lotus founder Colin Chapman, to secure approval for the design. The tribute extends beyond NASCAR's typical stock car throwbacks, celebrating motorsport history across disciplines.

Clark's victory was groundbreaking - it marked Ford Racing's first Indianapolis 500 win and the first for a rear-engined car. The Wood Brothers' efficient pit stops helped Clark lead 190 of 200 laps, with pit stops taking just 41.9 seconds.
Leonard Wood, who was part of Clark's original pit crew, expressed his enthusiasm: "This is one of the greatest moments of my life; looking back and pitting that car 60 years ago and then looking at this one – 75 years – and to be still here pulling for these guys to win races."
The throwback paint scheme will debut during NASCAR's official throwback weekend at Darlington Raceway on April 5-6.
